Tonight’s theme was originally going to be teen idols, which had some intriguing possibilities–I was hoping Siobhan Magnus would cover “The Letter” in honor of the late Alex Chilton. For some reason, they changed it to the much less interesting Billboard #1 hits. Someone could still sing “The Letter” but it’s much less likely now. [...] I am still wrestling with being anywhere near excited about this season of Idol. There were only two girls that I enjoyed last night, and the rest were either forgettably mediocre or unbelievably awful. This makes them very hard to rank, because how do you rank crap over crap? We’ll see. Crystal Bowersox – Perfect song [...] All of my dreams came true last week as Michelle lost. On the other side, though, I was sad to see Haeley go, even though she sucked really bad last week. This week, the girls really brought it overall, and a pretty decent shake-up has occurred on this list accordingly. Last week’s ranking for the contestant [...] This series is an experiment. If it proves popular, I’ll do it all season. Please let me know if you find it valuable. After watching the performance shows, I sometimes get a hankerin’ to revisit the original version of one or two of the songs covered, or, on the rare occasions where I don’t know the [...] While opinions on these singers are all over the place, a handful of favorites are emerging. Crystal Bowersox was stunning last night, and Casey James remains popular despite stumbling the previous night. Michael Lynche strengthened his hand considerably with a great performance on Tuesday, and, despite my negative opinion of her take on Aretha, Siobhan [...] An interesting show to say the least, if not a particularly good one. The guys definitely out did the girls overall this week, but a few stood out. Not many changes at the top this week with a couple of exceptions – One big riser and one big dropper. 1. Lilly Scott – It was really [...] With a couple of exceptions, tonight was a mixed bag. A lot of the singing was good, and occasionally better than good, but the creative choices made by most of the performers were lousy. However… Crystal Bowersox made a great creative choice, good for a five-slot jump. “Long as I Can See the Light” was a [...] Last night the guys improved greatly, which is to say that they went from horrible to merely mediocre. I hope that means that the girls will step it up and move from mediocre to good. Of course, the big news this week is the health of Crystal Bowersox, who went to the hospital yesterday morning. Rumor [...] Welcome to our first results show of 2010! There was a lot of atrocious singing on Tuesday and Wednesday, so perhaps it’s unfortunate that only four people will be sent home.
